These lightweight 50mm lenses are cool - I have something similar from Nikon. It was my first prime. :-) The only thing you need be aware of is that the 50mm will be something like 80mm (so, ideal portait lens) on your Canon because of the smaller sensor. I often found it "too long" and my favorite prime nowadays is the 35mm.
